OUTCOME
The redesigned Instant Alexa led to a 5% increase in customer dialogues. This experience is available across 4+ partner TVs and set-top boxes across US/EU and has been referenced in acquiring new partners.
PROBLEM
In a usability study comparing Alexa registration features, customers indicated their interest in the quickest way to set up while still learning what Alexa’s unique capabilities were. With too many options present, customers spent more time weighing on a decision. Any complicated explanations, processes, and interfaces that slowed them down led to decreased efficiency and increased drop off. A new-to-Alexa customer wants to see what Alexa can do before registering to know if setting up a voice assistant is worth their time.
PROCESS
Partnering with the product manager, I refined the 3rd-party partner experience by analyzing past designs, defining principles, ideating new features, and aligning with engineering on priorities.
SOLUTION
Instant Alexa lets hesitant or first-time customers explore Alexa’s capabilities through a 14-day trial, helping them build familiarity and engagement before registration. The experience includes quick, one-step enablement for those who skip setup, guided discovery moments throughout the trial, clear explanations of the benefits of registration, and seamless sign-in options via voice or QR code.
